Former Teachers

According to IMDb, Mr.T's previous occupations (before he was discovered by Sylvester Stallone and took up acting) included "gym teacher, military policeman, bouncer and bodyguard".

Art Garfunkel earned a BA in art history in 1965, followed by an MA in mathematics education in 1967. During a three–year hiatus after his split with Paul Simon, he spent late 1971 to early 1972 working as a maths teacher at a High School in Connecticut.

Sting qualified as a teacher in 1974, and taught at St Paul's First School in Cramlington for two years before moving to London and forming the Police in 1977.

Stephen King qualified as a teacher after gaining his BA degree in 1970, and began work as a teacher in Hampden, Maine in 1971. He'd sold his first story in 1967, and had continued to write ever since. His first novel, Carrie, was published in 1973. His advance for Carrie was $2,500, but the paperback rights later earned $400,000 and enabled him to give up teaching.

Philip Serrell qualified as a PE teacher at Loughborough. He soon discovered that teaching wasn't for him, and took up auctioneering. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1988, specialising in fine art and antiques.

Romesh Ranganathan started performing as a comedian whilst working as a maths teacher at Hazelwick School in Crawley, and The Beacon School, Banstead, Surrey. He was nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013.
